Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May

royal botanical garden

这其实是出自Robert Herrick (1591-1674) 在1968年写的“To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time”,按照解释,这是一首推崇贺拉斯的及时行乐的诗(a lyric poem that promotes carpe diem, the idea of living life to the fullestu0097now. The Roman poet Horace (65-8 BC) popularized the term carpe diem in the eleventh poem of his first book of Odes, published in 23 BC,from http://cummingsstudyguides.net/Guides6/Herrick.html)。

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he’s a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he’s to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:(把握韶光莫羞怍,愿得及时嫁)
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.(一旦青春随风去,守株待蹉跎)
